Karl light mode gets my vote by a mile, so this is a welcome change.
I am in the same boat with the glasses. Dark backgrounds make text look like it is glowing at the edges for me, and I end up switching most sites over to light anyway. Reading the forum on my phone in the evening is noticeably easier now.
Good of you to give the reason for the change as well, that is not something people usually bother to explain.
