LR Markdown Widget is a widget you write in Markdown: a welcome note, quick links, house rules. It's a widget for fof/forum-widgets-core, so you place it wherever widgets go.

What it does

An optional title and icon above your content.
Your body in Markdown, the GitHub flavor: headings, bold and italic, lists, links, images, code, quotes, tables and horizontal rules. Inline HTML works too, and it's cleaned before it's shown.
An optional background color. The text switches to a readable color on its own. Leave it blank to follow your theme in light and dark mode.
Edits show up on a normal reload, and unchanged content is cached instead of being fetched on every page.
Everything it needs is bundled, so nothing loads from a CDN.

What it doesn't do

It's one widget per forum. For several blocks, place several different widgets.
No per-tag or per-page targeting. It shows wherever FoF Forum Widgets places it.
If you'd rather write raw HTML, use LR HTML Widget instead.

Install

composer require linkrobins/markdown-widget

Enable it under Admin, Extensions, write your content in its settings, then place it on the FoF Forum Widgets page.

LR Markdown Widget 1.2.2

A security update to the HTML sanitizer that the Markdown widget bundles. Nothing else changes in how it works.

DOMPurify 3.4.16

The Markdown widget cleans its HTML with DOMPurify, which is built into the extension's JavaScript. This release updates it from 3.4.7 to 3.4.16, which fixes a low-severity advisory: GHSA-gvmj-g25r-r7wr (CVE-2026-65900). Template expressions could survive sanitizing when a site uses DOMPurify's SAFE_FOR_TEMPLATES option together with its DOM output modes.

The Markdown widget uses neither, so it was not exposed. The update keeps the bundled sanitizer current anyway.

New name in the admin panel

The extension now shows as LR Markdown Widget in your admin panel's extension list. The package name and everything else stay the same.

LR Markdown Widget 1.2.3

Fixed

No more flicker when moving between pages. The widget used to disappear for a moment each time you opened another page of the forum, then pop back in, which nudged the page up and down. It now stays in place from one page to the next. Your content is loaded once per visit, so the forum also makes fewer requests.

Changes you make in the admin panel still show up after a normal page refresh, the same as before.

This is the same fix the HTML Widget got in v1.3.2, which @Subarist reported.
