Countdown Widget

Karl

LR Countdown Widget puts a live countdown on your forum: days, hours, minutes and seconds ticking down to a moment you pick. It's a widget for fof/forum-widgets-core, so you can place it wherever widgets go.

What it does

Ticks down every second to a date and time you set in the admin panel.
Every visitor sees the same moment. You set the timezone the target is in, and everyone counts down to that exact instant wherever they are. No more "you said 11pm but it says something else for me in Tokyo".
An optional title, a line of small text under it (a venue, a date range) and an icon.
A message of your choice when it hits zero (🎉 by default).
Optionally the whole widget links somewhere, like a "find out more" page.
It follows your theme's colors, light and dark, and the digits don't jitter as they tick.

Requirements

Flarum 2.0 or later, PHP 8.3+
fof/forum-widgets-core

Install

composer require linkrobins/countdown-widget

Enable it under Admin, Extensions, set the target in its settings, then place it on the FoF Forum Widgets page.

Countdown Widget 1.2.0

The widget can now show a description: a line of small text under the title, the same field the other Forum Widgets have. Use it for a date range, a venue, or anything else that does not belong in the title itself. You will find it in the extension's settings, in the new Description box under Title. Requested by Tutrix.

This release also fixes the widget's header. If you set an icon but left the title blank, the widget built its own header row and left the description out, so a description on its own would never have appeared. The header now shows whenever you have filled in a title, an icon or a description.

After updating

Run php flarum cache:clear so your forum serves the rebuilt widget instead of the copy it already has cached.

Update

composer update linkrobins/countdown-widget

LR Countdown Widget 1.2.1

The widget's description is easier to read.

The description under the widget's title was a faint grey, about 2.3:1 against a light background and 3:1 against a dark one. It now uses the same color as the forum's other secondary text, such as the "replied 3 days ago" lines in the discussion list: about 4.3:1 in light mode and 4.2:1 in dark, and higher still in the high-contrast color schemes. It follows your forum's theme and color scheme as before.

Only the countdown's description changes. Other Forum Widgets keep their own colors.

After updating

Run php flarum cache:clear so your forum serves the updated styles instead of the copy it already has cached.

Thanks @DLBB for measuring it and asking.
